Archived Body

Naval Air Depot Cherry Point has added another win to its award-winning environmental program.

The Navy recently announced the depot’s selection as a winner in the 2004 Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Environmental Awards competition, sponsored by the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Installations & Environment).

The annual SECNAV Environmental Awards program recognizes Navy and Marine Corps individuals, teams, ships and installations for their exceptional environmental stewardship. Competition categories include natural resources conservation, cultural resources management, environmental quality, pollution prevention and environmental restoration.

The depot won in the Environmental Quality Industrial Installation Award category and is one of 17 recipients recognized in nine categories.

State of North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources formally recognized the depot on March 9 as one of three 2004 N.C. Environmental Stewards. Last month, the depot was chosen as a Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Environmental Quality Industrial Installation Award recipient, which enabled it to compete for the SECNAV level award.

The SECNAV and CNO awards will be presented May 3 in Washington, D.C., at the U.S. Navy Memorial & Naval Heritage Center.
