NAES Lakehurst hosts POW/MIA service

Archived Body

NAES Lakehurst will join communities nationwide in an observance of Prisoner of War and Missing in Action (POW/MIA) day at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2004. The public and media are invited to the base’s Cathedral of the Air, on Route 547 near the main gate, to what has become the largest POW/MIA day observance in the region.

Guests who wish to may bring a red or white rose to place in a vase on the altar during the ceremony. This simple rose ceremony joins those attending as individuals or representing grass-roots veterans’ organizations to those who are being remembered as Prisoners of War and to those Missing in Action. A wreath laying ceremony, a gun salute and the playing of TAPS outside concludes the formal event.

Media representatives are welcome to come directly to the Cathedral of the Air without registering through the pass and identification office at the main gate since the chapel is located outside the base fence line.
