2003 NAVAIR Commander’s Award Winners to be Honored at Ceremony

The 2003 NAVAIR Commander’s Award winners have been determined and will be recognized by NAVAIR Commander Vice Admiral Wally Massenburg at the official Commander’s Award ceremony on Monday, June 21, from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. in the atrium of the RADM William A. Moffett Building at Patuxent River, Md.

The ceremony is open to all NAVAIR employees and will be broadcast live to all main NAVAIR sites via video teleconferencing. The ceremony can also be viewed live throughout NAS Patuxent River on VISIONS Channel 12.

The Commander’s Award, the highest team award within the Naval Air Systems Command, recognizes the achievements of teams that have successfully supported the main goals of the Command.

There were 58 award nominations submitted this year for five award categories that align with NAVAIR’s business functions. They are:
· Program Management
· Engineering, Testing and Technology
· Logistics/Industrial
· Business Operations
· Quality of Service

The winning team for the 2003 NAVAIR Commander’s Award in the category of Program Management is the Aircraft Survivability Equipment Team from the Advanced Tactical Aircraft Protection System Tactical Aircraft Electronic Warfare program (PMA-272). The first runner-up in this category is the Integrated In-Service Reliability Program Team from AIR-6.2, and the second runner up is the E-2C Communications, Navigation and Identification Team from the E-2/C-2 program (PMA-231).

In the category of Engineering, Testing and Technology, this year’s winner of the Commander’s Award is the National Airworthiness Team from AIR-4.0P. The first runner-up is the Multi-Mission Helicopter Fleet Support Team from AIR-5.1.5. The second runner-up is the Corrosion Fleet Focus Team from AIR-4.3.4.

The winning team from the Logistics/Industrial category is the NAVAIR Depot AIRSpeed Team, a joint depot submission). The first runner-up in the category is the T-45 Aircraft and Engine Contractor Logistics Support Team from the Jet Flight Training System program (PMA-273). The second runner-up in the Logistics/Industrial category is the Cartridge Actuated Devices/Propellant Actuated Devices (CAD/PAD) Virtual Fleet Support Team from the Conventional Strike Weapons program (PMA-201).

The Commander’s Awards category of Business Operations has dual winners this year. The two winners for the award are the NAVAIR Depot AIRSpeed Team (a joint depot submission) and the Streamlined Delivery Order Process Team from AIR-2.5.1. The first runner-up for this category is the Workforce Shaping Team, submitted through AIR-6.0 and AIR-7.0. The second runner-up is the MH-60 R/S Common Cockpit Multi-Year Procurement Team from the H-60 Helicopter program (PMA-299).

In the final category of Quality of Service, this year’s winning team is the Government Travel Card Agency Program Coordinator’s Team from AIR-10.2. The first runner-up is the EA-6B Integrated Maintenance Concept Team from the EA-6B program (PMA-234). The second runner-up in this category is the NAVAIR Depot AIRSpeed Team (a joint depot submission).

Each of the nomination packages were judged by the following evaluation factors:
· Balancing current and future readiness
· Reducing our costs of doing business
· Improving agility
· Ensuring alignment
· Implementing Fleet-driven metrics
· Improving total workforce environment

The winning teams this year was chosen because they best epitomized NAVAIR’s goals. The Commander’s Awards winners are on permanent display in the atrium of the RADM William A. Moffett Building.
