NAVAIR Total Asset Visibility Web site Open for Business
By Edna Allen, AIR 3.3.3
Are you searching for a special piece of gear for upcoming operations? Or do you have material that you would like to offer to your NAVAIR fellows? Then check out the new Total Asset Visibility (TAV) Web site at http://home.navair.navy.mil/airsomm/ and proceed to the Sponsor Owned Material (SOM) reutilization section on the left.
The Web site will become a very critical tool for the NAVAIR community since the NAVAIRINST 4451.2, Management of NAVAIR Sponsor Owned Material (SOM), became effective December 4, 2003. The site shows users a complete overview of TAV and all of the elements of SOM including PMA managed material, Interim Supply Support (ISS), Special Tooling/Special Test Equipment (ST/STE) and the FMS Reserve.
The major thrust of the Web site, however, is to identify and coordinate residual NAVAIR program material for reutilization throughout the NAVAIR community first and then to the DoD Supply System. One might consider this the NAVAIR outlet mall. But items will remain on the store shelves for 90 days. If there is no further use, then the program will process the items to disposal.
LCDR Chuck Churchward of the TAV team says, “Reutilization of NAVAIR’s residual assets could significantly reduce our cost of doing business and improve readiness by eliminating procurement leadtimes.”
And with the impact of divestiture, a one-stop market for reutilization will be very valuable.
