Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, MD - NAVAIR team members celebrated the C-2A Operational Flight Trainer (OFT) recent accomplishment as it met its operational milestone and declared it ready for training! At a ribbon-cutting ceremony held this summer at NAVAIR North Island, energized team members officially delivered the trainer to the fleet.

The new flight trainer will provide fleet pilots with a much-needed tool for proficiency and upgraded training on the west coast, previously not available. Industry partner, Aero Simulation Inc, was selected in a competitive procurement to develop, deliver and support this trainer.

The new C-2A OFT incorporates several new aircraft avionics systems: Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS), and ARC-210 radio set. Additionally, Aero Simulation Inc will retrofit the existing east coast C-2A OFT located at the Fleet Readiness Squadron, VAW-120, Naval Air Station Norfolk, Va. with these new systems and an updated aerodynamic model.

NAVAIR's Program Manager for Aviation Training Systems (PMA-205), Capt Larry Howard, commented, "completion of this effort will complement the fleet's high quality C-2A flight training, providing enhanced training that supports the current configuration of C-2A aircraft systems including three new systems just being introduced to the fleet."

Attending the ceremony was Cmdr. Curtis Phillips, USN, Commanding Officer of Fleet Logistics Support Squadron Three Zero (VRC-30) who commented on the system, “delivery of this flight trainer will improve fleet readiness and safety.”
