Millett receives the third highest Navy honorary award for non-military personnel

Co-workers, family, and friends gathered in the Michelson Lab Management Center conference room to observe Captain Mark Storch, NAWCWD commander, present Scott Millett with the third highest award a Navy civilian can receive -- the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award. Millet was recognized for his many noteworthy contributions as the primary agent behind the Navy’s development and implementation of weapon message standards.

In part, the citation read: “Utilizing an entirely new series of messages for sensor nodes, command and control nodes, launch platforms, and the actual weapons, you and your Air Force counterparts created a unique message solution, which is documented in the Network Enabled Weapons Interface Change Proposal (NEW ICP). As such, you are now recognized as “the Navy expert” in this new messaging capability.” The award nomination stated: “Scott has been instrumental in solving the problem of linking target information to weapons in flight. Because of his excellent technical, communication, and organizational skills, he became the guiding force in this complex and vital effort.”

After being honored with this significant award, Millet scanned the room and said, “It has been really exciting. We pushed a rope that we didn’t think could be done. Teamwork makes these things happen, turning a whole bunch of organizations into one big “us”.
