Fifty two out of 94 walls for the Weapons and Armaments Technology Center (P-745V) are tilted up in place on Sept. 22 and 23 as construction continues on schedule. The concrete for these panels, weighing between 40 and 65 tons, was poured at night so the heat of the day would not impair the curing process, which takes about one week. The rest of the walls for P-745V, located at the corner of Knox and Blandy, are scheduled to go up later in October. The technology center is a 177,000-square foot facility that will house engineering labs, modeling and simulation facilities. It will also include logistics and conferencing capabilities. This $60 million project should be ready for its occupants in the fall of 2010. On Sept. 30, the vice chief of naval operations announced that the building will be named the Dr. William B. McLean Laboratory.
