Rod Kenly, left, head of the Missile Guidance Division, presents a NAWCWD Certificate of Excellence to Dan Toland, test director for the Spike missile project, for his coordination of the recent Spike missile firing on the NAWCWD sea range at Point Mugu. Toland prepared the test plan, coordinated with the sea range including selection of the structure and location of the test, and arrangement for target allocation. “There were many challenges in conducting the first Spike missile firing in a marine environment, and Dan handled them all in a highly professional manner,” said Art Hickle, deputy project manager for Spike. “He worked hard from the outset to address all details, but there were still many "pop-up" issues at the last minute, presented by the range, that Dan was able to solve with persistence, patience, and attention to detail.” (Photo by Renee Hatcher)
