The first of five webisodes featuring Navy China Lake scientists produced for the National Defense Education Program (NDEP) can be viewed online at http://www.navair.navy.mil/nawcwd/ and http://www.ndep.us/.

The webisode is part of NDEP’s LabTV series that is aimed at generating a science and math interest in young students. Research chemists, Dr. Ben Harvey and Dr. Mike Wright, of the California based Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, are featured in the webisode, “Biofuel – Turning T-shirts and Table Scraps into Jet Fuel.” In the video, they explain how current work at China Lake involves researching alternative energy sources like plants, grass clippings, pond scum and old T-shirts to create fuel for the future.

Aimed at the YouTube generation, the short videos on LabTV showcase the range of research and engineering opportunities that are available to young students, and encourage them to continue to develop their interests in math and science, and hopefully consider a career at a defense laboratory.
