The planetary gear produces torque in the main rotor gearbox, which helps provide lift for the helicopter. Dixon and Brinson used their experience in repairing H-53 gearboxes to provide expert practical guidance for forward-deployed Marines aboard the USS Bataan who needed to repair a damaged accessory bevel drive gear in a CH-53E main rotor gearbox.
