A rotary pilot performs a shipboard-landing maneuver through fog in a simulated scenario at the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division’s Manned Flight Simulator in Patuxent River, Md. The pilot successfully landed his MH-60S on a virtual carrier in zero-visibility conditions using new landing aid software developed at the warfare center. A zero-visibility landing is an impossible feat in today’s Seahawk helicopters where rotary pilots have no visual landing aids to assist with one of aviation’s most difficult tasks.
