Consolidated Automated Support System Family of Testers (CASS FoT)
The CASS FoT provides fleet intermediate-level maintenance activities ashore and afloat with the capability to test and troubleshoot over 500 avionics Weapons Replaceable Assemblies and Shop Replaceable Assemblies across multiple Navy and Marine Corps type/model/series aircraft, avoiding repair costs of more than $1.1 billion per year. Originally fielded in the 1990s, the CASS FoT includes both mainframe CASS stations installed in Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Departments (AIMDs) ashore and afloat worldwide, as well as Reconfigurable Transportable CASS (RTCASS) stations in support of forward-deployed Marine Aviation Logistics Squadrons. All mainframe CASS systems are currently being replaced by electronic CASS (eCASS) due to approaching obsolescence. The eCASS is a technologically-advanced system to replace mainframe CASS in support of the Fleet for the next 20 years.
The CASS FoT programs are actively supported by the NAWCAD Lakehurst Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) Laboratory. The ATE Lab provides personnel in support of CASS and RTCASS, who are part of the CASS Software Support Activity, which is a multi-site team lead by Fleet Readiness Center, South East. In support of eCASS, the ATE Lab hosts software engineers, technicians and test personnel in developing state-of-the-art systems, such as the Common Development Environment for Test (CDET). CDET is the next generation TPS development and execution environment based on industry standard and commercial development languages and tools. CDET will allow for transport of Test Program Sets (TPSs) across the CASS FoT, and provides a modernized environment for TPS developers to create, debug and modify their test programs.
The ATE lab supports research and development efforts to help define and evaluate industry standards, and foster the development of tools that utilize these standards, across the Navy and DOD. These efforts will support the ATE and TPS communities in various ways, including integrated data collection and analysis, lower lifecycle costs and improved interoperability. The NAWCAD Lakehurst Procurement Division provides contract support for the procurement of full rate production, supply support, repair and maintenance and associated hardware for the CASS FoT program.
