F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)
The F-35 Lightning II is the DoD’s next-generation of affordable strike aircraft weapon systems for the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marines and coalition partners. This highly integrated, multi-role, multi-service, single seat, single engine strike fighter featuring next-generation stealth technology represents a quantum leap in air dominance capability. It combines radar-evading stealth, supersonic speed, fighter agility and advanced logistical support with the most powerful and comprehensive integrated sensor package of any fighter aircraft in history to provide unprecedented lethality and survivability.
Understanding that we live in a resource-constrained world, the F-35 Lightning II enables us to maintain air superiority essential to preserving U.S. national security and regional stability across the globe while leveraging key global resources. As an international cooperation strike fighter with eight partner nations —the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey, Canada, Australia, Denmark and Norway — and three Foreign Military Sales (FMS) countries — Japan, Israel, and South Korea — the F-35 Lighting II will deliver optimum international security via integrated coalition operations. These global partnerships ensure that this common, affordable aircraft will fully realize its enhanced stealth and increased interoperability with our allies while ensuring economies of scale, facilitating industrial partnerships, advancing science and technology, and achieving critical cost-sharing. This unique, affordable next-generation aircraft redefines the multi-role fighter concept by incorporating robust air-to-air and air-to-surface capabilities with intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) and electronic attack in a single aircraft across U.S. services and partner nations.
The F-35 Lightning II will set new benchmarks in supportability and maintainability. Joint Program Office Support Equipment (SE) Integrated Product Team (IPT) members from NAWCAD Lakehurst play a key role in providing an affordable high-quality SE solution to all F-35 Lightning II multi-service/multi-national air system customers. It is the mission of this group to provide the required SE solutions in a timely manner that supports sortie generation rate, emphasizes reduction of cost and reduces the logistics footprint over legacy systems.
F-35 SE includes engine trailers, servicing carts, ejection seat maintenance equipment and the helmet mounted display ready room tester to name a few. By building on long-term partnerships with end users, suppliers, original equipment manufacturers and third-party logistics providers, the F-35 Lightning II SE Program provides comprehensive life cycle support for the F-35 Lightning II.
