Mobile Navy Enhanced Simulation for Training (Mobile-NEST)
The Mobile Navy Enhanced Simulation for Training (Mobile-NEST) is a training system developed by Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) to address the gap in onboard submarine training utilizing commercially off-the-shelf (COTS) Windows 11 handheld gaming devices. As a subset of the Multipurpose Reconfigurable Training System 3-Dimensional® (MRTS 3D®) Training Suite, Mobile-NEST enables sailors to train in both standalone and networked modes, which provides flexibility for individual and group training. As a result of its portability, it allows for sailors to perform equipment operations and maintenance training while directly next to the equipment, enhancing hands-on learning.
Furthermore, Mobile-NEST's potential extends beyond MRTS 3D® training applications, making it compatible with other Windows 11-based training applications. While initially developed to address the onboard submarine training gap, the adaptability of Mobile-NEST allows for its potential application across all branches of the military and across the undersea, aviation, surface, and ground platforms. Positive feedback from fleet leadership and trainees, including endorsements from Trident Training Facility Kings Bay and Submarine Missile Technicians, is driving momentum towards an official Naval training requirement, signaling a future where training is accessible and effective anywhere on board.
