688i Weapons Launch Console (WLC)
The MRTS 3D® 688i 3D application replicates portions of the U.S. Navy’s Los Angeles-class submarine for operators to carry out all the steps related to launching weapons in a team-training environment. It allows the operators to conduct pre-launch procedures, arm the weapon, and launch the weapon. These procedures are done by interacting with various valves, switches, levers, and using the Weapon Launch Console (WLC), Horizontal Launch System (HLS), and Vertical Launch System (VLS).
This application has mixed modality between 2D and 3D scenes for operators to conduct vertical and horizontal launches of weapons, from ADCAPS to Tomahawks. The application contains about 25 different casualties that can be loaded between the fire control center and the WLC. The WLC’s 2D scene is geared towards valve alignment and manual operations on each torpedo tube and vertical silos. The 3D scenes are more geared towards the setup of the launch sequence via the WLC. Operators are expected to perform responsive actions for preventing critical damage to the systems. Compared to the similar application, 688 2nd Flight, this training system has more digital controls.
