CAPTAIN JOSEPH HIDALGO, USN

Captain Joseph A. Hidalgo is a native of San Jose, California. He graduated from Saint Mary’s 
College of California with a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 1994. In January 1998, he 
completed Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL and was commissioned as an Ensign in the 
United States Navy. Selected to the Aerospace Maintenance Duty Officer community in 2000. 
Captain Hidalgo’s qualifications and designations include: Professional Aviation Maintenance 
Officer and Acquisition Professional Member. He earned a Master of Science in Global 
Leadership from the University of San Diego in 2005.

Captain Hidalgo sea tours include Airframes/Power Plants and Avionics/Armament Division 
Officer in the Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Department onboard USS CONSTELLATION 
(CV 64). While assigned to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Four (HS 4) onboard USS 
RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76). He served as the Assistant Maintenance Officer and 
Maintenance Material Control Officer in direct support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and 
ENDURING FREEDOM. Onboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) he served as the Maintenance 
Material Control Officer and Assistant Maintenance Officer in the Aviation Intermediate 
Maintenance Department. Onboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) he served as 
the Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department Officer.

Captain Hidalgo’s shore tours include Naval Air Technical Data and Engineering Command 
(NATEC) as the Product Support Lead for all Common and Peculiar Support Equipment; 
Commander, Helicopter Sea Combat Wing, U.S Pacific Fleet’s Assistant Maintenance Officer, 
Readiness Officer, and Contracting Officer; Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), Program 
Manager AIR (PMA-273) as the Assistant Program Management for Logistics (APML) in support 
of Naval Undergraduate Flight Training Systems (T-45) and as the AIR-6.6 Operations Officer for 
Logistics; Fleet Readiness Center Mid-Atlantic (FRCMA) Production Officer, Second in
Command tour; OPNAV Air Warfare Directorate Staff as the Deputy for the Logistics & 
Readiness Branch managing $20B in annual operations, maintenance, procurement, and RDT&E 
appropriations for twenty (20) ACAT level Naval Aviation logistics & maintenance support, 
common avionics, air crew systems, and readiness programs. CAPT Hidalgo assumed 
Commanding Officer of Fleet Readiness Center West (FRCW) after serving as the Executive 
Officer. Currently Serving as the Vice Commander of Fleet Readiness Centers.

Captain Hidalgo was recognized as the 2017 USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT’s Navy and 
Marine Association Leadership Award winner. His personal awards include the Legion of Merit,
Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy 
Achievement Medal (two awards), and various other unit and campaign awards.
