Freedom of Information Act

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides that any person has a right, enforceable in court, to obtain access to federal agency records subject to the Act, except to the extent that any portions of such records are protected from public disclosure by one of nine exemptions.

 

Commander, Fleet Readiness Centers (COMFRC) posts publicly available documents in the Reading Rooms below. Please search the sites before submitting a FOIA request.

The FOIA specifies the following requirements for a request:

  1. It must "reasonably describe" the records sought. A description of a requested record is sufficient if it enables a professional agency employee familiar with the subject area to locate the record with a "reasonable amount of effort."
  2. It must be "made in accordance with published rules stating the time, place, fees (if any), and procedures to be followed."
  3. Include your complete contact information including name, mailing address, telephone number and e-mail address.

Purpose

Information is collected to ensure accurate and verification identification of individuals for the Agency to receive, process, track, and respond to FOIA and Privacy Act request, appeals, and associated litigation.

Routine Uses

Information submitted via FOIA or Privacy Act requests or appeals may be shared with other DON or DoW staff for work-related purposes identified in this statement; other federal agencies, components, or entities when consulting or referring a FOIA or Privacy Act request; the Department of Justice for legal advice or representation; the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) for records keeping; Office of Government Information Services (OGIS) to resolve disputes between requesters and the Agency. Disclosure of this information is also subject to the published routine uses as identified in the Privacy Act Systems of Record Notice DoD-0008, Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act Records.

Voluntary. Failure to provide this information may affect the Navy’s ability to respond to your request and may result in denial to access the system.
