Shift5 provides a product to prevent, detect, log, alert, and heal against cyber threats on operational technology (OT) platforms. Our mission is to protect OT platforms against cyberattacks across the entire lifecycle.

While IT cybersecurity has made tremendous progress in the past decade, OT cybersecurity has failed to keep pace with evolving threats and poses a significant threat to public health and safety. OT is the hardware and software that control systems that interact with the physical world, and OT is abundant throughout industrialized society. While automation has benefited society through increased efficiencies, reliability, and convenience, many OT systems were designed and implemented without cybersecurity as a priority. OT systems are attractive targets for malicious cyber hackers, especially as hacking IT systems becomes increasingly difficult.

Shift5 provides an integrated software and hardware solution that addresses all phases of cyberattack against the internal data communications bus found in weapon systems and major transportation systems such as maritime vessels, locomotives, airliners, and heavy off-road equipment.

The Shift5 solution provides edge intrusion prevention, detection, reporting, and enables fleet wide awareness and monitoring, allowing commanders and managers to see their cybersecurity posture within their OT while also defending individual systems. The solution was designed from the start to integrate into the system of systems that support weapons platforms and OT platforms.

At a more technical level, the solution prevents most known attacks, detects and alerts crews and commanders, interfaces with existing maintenance processes, enables cyber response forces to defend forward and conduct incident response, and provides a wealth of enriched data for authorized ancillary purposes such as predictive maintenance. Through all of these capabilities, Shift5’s security solution addresses all phases of a cyberattack against weapon systems and OT platforms.
