Spectra Group (US) Inc and its parent company, Spectra Group (UK) Ltd (Spectra) provides an
operationally proven, unique, reliable and secure method of communications for various waveforms to
transmit and receive between stations. This capability allows currently fielded UHF and VHF
communication devices to provide connected voice and data transmissions. This capability allows security
elements with different radios, and, variously equipped security forces to communicate effectively,
providing a simple and unique enhancement to a tactical network.
Spectra provides a unique low SWaP conversion device (SlingShot) that connects to different
tactical radios operating in UHF, VHF Military or VHF Commercial frequency bands. With the same
encryption key, all elements within the broadcast beam can communicate securely over the commercial
Inmarsat fourth generation (I-4) L-Band satellite network. SlingShot works with or without encryption.
Additionally, the system provides communications while military elements are on the move, cross-banding
between various frequencies; enhancing the expeditionary nature of today’s BCT’s.
SlingShot can be deployed at any level from the individual soldier/person to a United Nations
command center. All organizations benefit from the BLOS COTM, interoperability and multiple network
aspects of the satellite service.
The small form factor of the SlingShot system allows for easy, out of the way installation and use
aboard any mobility platform (Tanks, Fighting Vehicles, HUMMVS and or commercially available trucks, cars
or SUV’s). With coalition and NGO operations, the system interoperates with commercial hand-held VHF
radios, enabling effective communications anywhere, anytime and with anyone.
Given the COTM ability of the system, the system can be employed aboard aircraft in flight, ground
mobility platforms and watercraft in a littoral or open ocean scenario. The standard system can be
configured into static/base station/TOC operations to ensure effective C2 with BLOS tactical networks.
SlingShot can be configured to operate while mounted to aerostats, observation towers and or drones
A SlingShot/L-TAC channel is provided for the uplink and downlink to extend the tactical radio
network between users.
