FRCE engineer receives award at BEYA STEM conference

FRCE engineer recognized as technology leader at Black Engineer of Year awards
Engineers from Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) speak with students at Pamlico Middle School. The presentation was part of the depot’s National Engineers Week outreach efforts, which saw FRCE engineers visiting four elementary schools, 18 middle schools and four high schools in Eastern North Carolina and engaging with more than 2,700 area students.

FRCE brings engineering to Eastern North Carolina classrooms
Eric Gares, front, oxygen equipment repair mechanic, and quality assurance inspector Josh Unruh put the final touches on the 100th F-35 Lightning II parachute repacked at Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE). FRCE achieved this milestone less than one year after inducting their first F-35 parachute. Since 2018, the depot had declared capability on 32 components, including the parachutes for the fifth-generation fighter.

Jeremy Pedersen, machinist at Fleet Readiness Center East’s Repair Machine Shop, utilizes a press while working on an aircraft component. The Repair Machine Shop is made up of 22 work centers where 70 highly trained machinists recondition everything from helicopter transmissions to jet engine components.

FRCE offers internship opportunities to trade and engineering students, separating service members
Chad Bogdahn, a bearing reconditioner at Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE), inspects a bearing inside the depot’s bearing shop. FRCE’s Bearing Shop refurbishes hundreds of bearings each week, turning out several thousand each month. The shop works with nearly 5,000 different part numbers ranging from bearings used on CH-53 helicopters to those used in military hovercraft variants.

China Taylor, a training administrator at Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE), practices CPR techniques on a training dummy during a class focused on first aid, CPR and use of an automated external defibrillator. While the training is a mandatory requirement for some FRCE employees, the depot’s goal is to enhance readiness by training personnel throughout the work force.
