Research

NAWCAD welcomes collaborative research with universities and colleges.

Research and Development Engagement with Universities and College Partners

The Strategic Education Office (SEO) invites the submission of white papers from academic partners through NAWCAD's Broad Agency Announcement which spans the spectrum from basic to applied research and operation applications – a range of activity that offers numerous opportunities for engagement with academic partners to address advancement and improvement in executing the NAWCAD mission. Further details are located on the official federal acquisition opportunities websites, sam.gov and www.grants.gov, under the active BAA notice ID: N00421-21-S-0001.

Summer Faculty Research Program

The Office of Naval Research sponsors the Summer Faculty Research Program (SFRP). This program provides an opportunity for faculty members to participate with engineers and scientists at NAWCAD. The visiting fellow is able to build collaborative relationships which can be a foundation to advance scientific research and foster academic growth in STEM careers. SFRP is a 10-week fellowship with three levels of appointment: Summer Faculty Fellow, Senior Summer Faculty Fellow and Distinguished Summer Faculty Fellow.

Fellows must be U.S. citizens. Fellows from Historically Black Colleges and Universities, minority institutions, American Indian Tribal Colleges and Universities, and Hispanic-Serving Institutions, as designated by the U.S. Department of Education, are especially encouraged to apply.

Applications for the ONR SFRP typically open in September and close in December for the following summer appointment. Notification of appointment occurs in Spring. Applications can be submitted through the ONR website.
