Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW) performs Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services on Navy and Marine Corps aircraft, including:

  • F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet fighter/attack aircraft
  • EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft
  • E-2C and E-2D Hawkeye advanced warning/command and control aircraft
  • C-2A Greyhound carrier onboard delivery cargo aircraft
  • AV-8B Harrier V/STOL fighter
  • H-60 Sea Hawk helicopter
  • H-53 Super Stallion helicopter
  • AH-1 Super Cobra and UH-1 Super Huey helicopters
  • MV‑22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft
  • MQ-8B Fire Scout drones

The command also sends teams of maintenance personnel to apply their talents onboard Navy aircraft carriers and U.S. military bases worldwide.

FRCSW reworks and refurbishes more than 40,000 components yearly for multiple aircraft platforms. Hydraulic actuators and cylinders, airframe components, avionics, instruments, and generators are just some of the items serviced by FRCSW artisans.

FRCSW also developed the Center Barrel Replacement Plus program for the legacy F/A-18 Hornet. The program is essential in extending the life expectancy of this multi-role aircraft which is utilized by both the Navy and Marine Corps.

FRCSW is the first Navy facility to be dual certified as AS9100/AS9110 compliant and is also the first in the Navy to receive Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification as an authorized repair station under a limited radio-navigation rating for the VIR-31A VOR navigation radios used in both fixed and rotary winged aircraft.

FRCSW has a robust manufacturing program producing parts that are unavailable through other sources required for specialized repairs. The capabilities allow FRCSW to repair aircraft that are essential to the success of the Warfighter and include advanced composite materials, water-jet cutting, 5-axis machining, additive manufacturing as well as heat treating and plating.

FRCSW provides engineering and logistical support across the globe by sending teams of personnel wherever they are needed to assist warfighters with advanced repairs that are beyond unit capabilities.

FRCSW also provides calibration and metrology support to the Navy both at home and abroad, and possesses a Materials Laboratory that allows for additional in-depth analysis.

FRCSW is the only Navy facility performing overhaul on General Electric LM2500 Marine Gas Turbine engines; these engines power a large number of the Navy’s surface fleet, including Ticonderoga-Class, Arleigh Burke-Class surface warfare ships, and Independence-Class littoral combat ships.

FRCSW repairs and maintains the steam powered catapults, arresting gear systems and landing guidance systems on board Navy aircraft carriers thus assuring the safe take-off and landing of military aircraft.

FRCSW and NAVAIR engineers create innovative uses for technology to find solutions for manufacturing, repair and overhaul of aircraft components and structures on a daily basis; utilizing state-of-the-art processes to support warfighter missions worldwide.

FRCSW employs more than 4,000 civilians and nearly 900 military personnel. The bulk of these people are located at the main facility in San Diego, Calif., however with the Navy’s emphasis on distributed maintenance the command has personnel permanently stationed at numerous locations worldwide.
