Flight Information Recording Systems (FIRS)
The Flight Information Recording Systems (FIRS), mandated by CNO for all Naval aircraft, completed passenger-carrying aircraft integration in FY98. Passenger-carrying aircraft type/model/series included C-2A, C-130T, UP/VP-3A, C-12, and CT-39. CSFIR tactical aircraft installations in F/A-18C/D commenced FY00 with a planned completion date of FY05. Installations on 4 UH-3 to VH-3 conversion aircraft are planned for FY03-FY04.

The FIRS record numerous flight data parameters as well as cockpit voice to assist in determining the cause of an aircraft mishap.
