Winter assumes command of NAWCWD

Rear Adm. Mat Winter assumes command of the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division on June 29. Distinguished members of the Navy, county and community attended the ceremony which took place at 8 a.m. on the front lawn of the Headquarters Building at China Lake. Guest speaker Vice Adm. David Architzel, seated at right, commander of the Naval Air Systems Command, praised the capabilities of NAWCWD and its newest commander. Architzel said, "Not only does Mat understand naval aviation weapons and strike warfare, he's lived it, and as the saying goes, experience is the best teacher. Winter's first remarks as commander focused on the people of WD, organizational alignment and mission. Throughout his speech, Winter echoed the sentiment of former WD military and civilian leaders when he said, "The strength of this command is the people. Winter is the 37th commander to lead NAWCWD.
