On the one-year anniversary of NAVAIR's deployment to the Navy Enterprise Resource Planning (Navy ERP) System, NAWCWD leadership presented awards of recognition to 161 employees who were instrumental in the system transition. Comptroller Jan Lamb was joined by Darrin Boston, Site Implementation Team (SIT) lead, and other business department and division managers for the assemblies on Oct. 7 and 8 at Point Mugu and China Lake.

"You faced a significant challenge and met it with the "can do" attitude that personifies the NAVAIR and NAWCWD team," Lamb told awardees. "In spite of the annual fiscal year-end and start-up activities that consume us all at that time of year, you took on the additional responsibilities of Navy ERP and kept right on going."

Boston added his endorsement by saying "The time, effort, intelligence and creativity of everyone involved helped this transition be as constructive as possible. I'm proud of everyone who has contributed to the Navy taking this step forward."

Navy ERP's financial and acquisition program management components are the first in a series of standard, integrated tool sets intended to facilitate business process reengineering and provide interoperable data intended to dramatically increase effective support for the warfighter. The capability that the program brings will provide the Navy with the financial transparency and total asset visibility required in a modern enterprise.

The program is large, complex and dynamic enough to have significant issues that need to be resolved along the way, but employees across NAVAIR continue to focus on correcting and improving those issues to benefit the enterprise organization.

"I appreciate the acknowledgement that goes with this award," said Kim-Son Nguyen, team lead for Navy ERP reports. "It's important to note that people are still working very hard on it."

Rose Clark, subject matter expert for materials management, agreed that efforts are ongoing to address the rough spots. Clark has worked on the development, testing, conversion and stand-up for the past two and a half years. "We are so much further ahead in the first year of Navy ERP than we were in the first several years of our previous system," she said. "The national program office is really working with us to try to fix things and we are seeing improvements. It's been a great learning experience for me."

Letters of appreciation, monetary bonuses, time off and an engraved desk clock were among the awards presented to each person on the team, which reflected a cross-section of disciplines that are required to administer a best practice management capability. Joyce Moody, the Business Process Coordinator for the program, emphasized that it is always good to give recognition when it is deserved. "We've seen so many changes in our business and financial systems in the last 10 years," Moody stated. "In spite of that, everyone put forth an extra effort to make this transition as successful as possible. The people that work with Navy ERP continue to apply that extra effort – they're people who just keep on giving!"
