Capt. Mark Storch, NAWCWD vice commander, introduced the Women's History Month aviation art show on March 20 at China Lake. The theme of this year's Women's History Month was Women's Art: Women's Vision.
"Aviation art commemorates the traditions of aviation and speaks to the artist on an emotional subject," said Storch.
There were five prints of aviation art featured in Michelson lab donated by artists Margaret Hughes, Susan Sinclair and Alison Boyle. The five pieces represent the Air Force's F-16, an AH-64 Apache helicopter, an F-14 Tomcat, a P-51 Mustang, and an F-117 Nighthawk, which reflect the contributions of the members of the armed forces who serve our country.
In support of this year's theme, a proclamation by the President of the United States encouraged all citizens to observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that honor the history, accomplishments, and contributions of American women.
"This year's theme honors the originality, beauty, imagination and multiple dimensions of women's lives," said Deborah Wilson, federal women's program manager. "It is certainly a privilege to share these women's contributions with the workforce."
"It is nice to see women continuing the legacy of leadership and those who are currently on strike carriers," said Storch. "When I was commissioned in the Navy, women had very few roles. I would like to take this time and celebrate the month of March as Women's History Month."
