High Tech Work: Robotics

IED Robotics

The Navy robotics capability is designed to deliver state-of-the art capability, based on commercial off-the-shelf technologies that meet the demands of real-world operations. Potential uses include counter-IED, mobile detection, mine disposal, weapons tests, sensing, and unmanned air vehicle capabilities.  Robots equipped with a variety of sensors and tools are used to perform reconnaissance of dangerous areas and suspected IEDs. Robots also disrupt and disable unexploded ordnance (UXO) and IEDs. In the event of an explosion, the robotic vehicle will take the damage instead of the human operator. Development and testing of robotic devices is ongoing at WD.
