Basic and applied research helps develop new and innovative concepts leading to technological advances at NAVAIR WD.

Advances made benefit not only the military but also private industry. For most of the past 50 years, our efforts were concentrated on defense. Now we are expanding our focus to the commercial section, and technology transfer reflects a new way of doing business. Through technology transfer, the Navy serves the taxpayers by making our military technology available for commercial application. The primary mechanisms through which we share our technology with private industry are Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs) and Patent License Agreements.
