Technical OverviewCMIS is an automated Configuration Management (CM) tool provided to components of the Department of Defense (DoD). CMIS adheres to required functional CM business practices, is user friendly, and is built using open systems architecture. CMIS uses the Oracle relational database management system (RDBMS) for platform scalability and rapid query and retrieval. CMIS represents a joint development effort involving functional CM. The result is a system that is designed with user participation to ensure that operational product meets user community requirements. CMIS uses Oracle relational database technology to integrate the requirements associated with the CM, engineering, logistics, and pre-procurement disciplines. This integration offers a seamless view of the relationship between a part, its documentation, and associated attributes. CMIS supports the Configuration Identification, Configuration Control (CC), and Configuration Status Accounting (CSA) functions of CM. The software requirements for CMIS are: Database Server Web Server Client This architecture enables CMIS to leverage the power of the Oracle RDBMS with the flexibility of ColdFusion and the deployment ease of a web browser. The processing power, memory, and disk space requirements of the server are dependent on the size of the database, transaction volume, and number of concurrent users. CMIS is designed to interface with existing systems that facilitate the collection, storage, manipulation, and use of CM, engineering, logistics, and procurement technical data. CMIS interfaces with JEDMICS, and other legacy databases and systems. CMIS utilizes existing Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS), Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS), and Non-Developmental Item (NDI) third party software products to realize Government cost savings. CMIS provides multiple layers of data filtering and access control. In addition to the robust security features provided by Oracle, user access can be restricted on a screen-by-screen basis and even to data subsets within tables. CMIS provides easy to use interfaces for controlling user accounts, access, and roles. |
