ACQUISTION LOGISTICS HANDBOOK (ALH)

Homepage

MIL-HDBK-502, DoD Acquistion Logistics Handbook (ALH), was developed by the Joint Services Technical Working Group under the direction of the Office of the Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Logistics. It is the replacement document for MIL-STD-1388-1A (LSA) and may be used on all future Acquistion programs. However, the handbook is for guidance only and cannot be cited in a contract as a requirement. This handbook offers guidance on Acquistion logistics as an integral part of the systems engineering process and provides general guidance to members of the DoD workforce directly concerned with the supportability of material systems or automated information systems. Included in this handbook are the following areas of interest:

  • How systems engineering fits into the Acquistion process.
  • Supportability analyses as part of the systems engineering process.
  • How to develop supportability requirements.
  • The Acquistion and generation of support data.
  • Logistics considerations for contracts.
  • The logisticians role on integrated product teams (IPTs).
  • Samples of supportability analyses summaries (SAS).
  • Samples of LMI Worksheet 1 - Supportability Analysis Summaries.
  • Samples of LMI Worksheet 2 - Data Products

A training workshop is currently being developed by AIR-3.1E to provide NAST personnel with a better understanding of how to acquire Acquistion logistics data using the ALH. Watch this web page for further details on this training and when it will be made available to the NAST.

The ALH is maintained by the USAMC LOGSA, Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL and available on their web site at https://www.logsa.army.mil/lec/
