Monmouth University ( http://www.monmouth.edu  )

EPA (Education Partnership Agreement) signed: July 99 (click for EPAFile Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader To View (Button Image))

Outreach efforts:

Monmouth has provided consultation in the area of software engineering.

Accomplishments: Monmouth is offering on-site MS programs in Computer Science and Software Engineering

Princeton University ( http://www.princeton.edu )

EPA signed: July 00

Outreach efforts:

NAVAIR Lakehurst participated in annual technical review of the Photonics and Optoelectronic Materials (POEM) Industrial Affiliates program (Oct 02) and in the Biotechnology Summit (Oct 02).

Invited to participate in kick-off meeting for the NJ Center for Organic Optoelectronics (Nov 02)

Accomplishments:

NAVAIR Lakehurst provided $140k to POEM via ONR funding for research on Ultra-fast Laser Pulse Shaping for High Resolution Imaging and Remote Detection.

Discussing joint project with Princeton civil engineering department in areas such as fire protection, metal stress assessment and analysis of vulnerabilities and abatement of risks due to natural and man-made catastrophes.

Rowan University ( http://www.rowan.edu )

EPA signed: Feb 99 (Link to EPA)

Outreach efforts:

Throughout the past 3+ years NAVAIR Lakehurst has provided opportunities for Rowan summer interns to gain real-world experience and has hired four Rowan graduates.

The Chair of the Rowan Mechanical Engineering Department has consulted for several years in the area of Manufacturing and Prototyping e.g., heat treatment of cross-deck terminal pendants and non-linear finite element analysis of the water-brake cylinder.

Accomplishments:

NAVAIR Lakehurst has funded several "Clinic Projects" under the Rowan "Industrial Affiliates Program". A team of students, led by a Rowan professor, is funded (normally $5k) to work on an actual problem. The most recent clinic project (fall, 2001) was related to the next generation of Jet Blast Deflectors (JBD). Specifically; investigate replacement of the hydraulic JBD raising mechanism with electric drive and investigate alternate materials that eliminate the need for water-cooling.

Stevens University ( http://www.stevens.edu )

EPA signed: March 00

Outreach:

Stevens is providing on-site training. Systems Design and Operational Effectiveness is scheduled for Dec 02.

Accomplishments:

Pollution Prevention funding was approved in Sept 00 for Paint Booth Exhaust and Surface Cleaning Initiatives.

A CRADA was signed in Feb 01 with Plasmasol Corp. Plasmasol was created by Stevens graduates through the Steven Business Incubator. The CRADA is "Technology for Removal and Elimination of Volatile Organic Compounds in Industrial and Environmental Applications". Plasmasol is currently working at Lakehurst at Water Remediation Site 13. It’s been shown that their technology can be used as an adjunct to a carbon-based remediation system, extending the life of the carbon bed significantly.

Penn State University ( http://www.psu.edu )

A partnership agreement is currently in discussion. Our primary mutual interest is in the area of cryogenics.

Ocean County Vocational Technical Schools (OCVTS) ( http://www.ocvts.org

The Career Technical Institute (CTI) offering courses in Aviation Aerospace Technology and Audio Recording for Electronic Media are located in historic Hangar 1 in an addition built by OCVTS. The Culinary Arts School where students are taught how to plan, prepare and serve meals is located on base in a converted officers club facility. Students regularly cater events for base special occasions. A licensed Practical Nursing curriculum is also offered on base.
