Program and providing for increased efficiency in
defense procurement."
DoD
Environmental Cleanup, Installation Award
Presented
to NAVAIR Lakehurst for its successful effort to
cleanup the installation, resulting in getting itself
taken off the Environmental Protection Agency's
National Priorities List. In 1987, there were 45 sites
on the installation listed for cleanup. By last year,
all sites had a "record of decision" and of
the 11 sites requiring action, all have a remedy in
place.

Stratospheric Ozone Award
The
award, presented at the International Chlorofluocarbon
and Halon Alternative Conference, was in recognition
of efforts in the development and implementation of a
Halon 1211 recycling system. Quality Improvement
Prototype (QIP) Award One
of only three DoD installations to win the Federal
Quality Institute award in 1993. The QIP award is the
government's equivalent to the Malcolm Baldridge award
for achieving superior quality and customer
satisfaction while reducing costs by practicing
quality management.

Energy Conservation Award
Recognized
for an outstanding energy management program which
saved $715,000 since 1985.

Recognized
as the benchmark for other DoD activities in the field

Environmental Award for Weapon System Acquisition for
the Pollution Prevention Afloat Team
Over
the past year and a half, over one hundred separate
pieces of equipment were installed onto six Naval
vessels to evaluate the hazardous materials,
reduction, manpower reduction, operability and
maintainability in a Navy environment.
