Freedom of Information Act Overview

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is a federal law that allows for the full or partial disclosure of releasable information and documents controlled by the United States government to any person including U.S. citizens, foreign government nationals, organizations, universities, businesses, and state and local governments.

Some records are protected by one or more of the nine exemptions outlined in the act. When one or more of these exemptions is combined with a valid legal basis, documents may be withheld either in full or part. See Exemptions/Exclusions for a detailed list.

This website is specific to the procedures that Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) and the Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Patuxent River follow for handling FOIA requests.

You may submit a request online at  https://foiaonline.regulations.gov/foia/action/public/request/publicPreCreate or via email at NAWCADFOIA@navy.mil or by mail or fax. Please visit the Submit a Request page to obtain information on all the ways to submit your FOIA request.

When requesting information related to Federal contracts, some documents may already be publicly available. The following databases may be of assistance in your search:

Seaport-e task orders, which frequently refer to UIC: N00178, are required to be available on the contractor's website.
