RDML Shane Gahagan

Rear Adm. Shane Gahagan graduated from North Carolina State University and was commissioned in 1986. He was designated a naval flight officer in 1987.

His fleet assignments include Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 115, the Liberty Bells, and the E-2C Hawkeye Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS), VAW-110, the Firebirds.

A 1991 graduate of U.S. Naval Test Pilot School Class 101, Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, Gahagan has also served at Patuxent River with the Force Warfare Aircraft Test Directorate and as flag aide to the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division commander.

Gahagan’s acquisition assignments include E-2C Hawkeye/C-2 Greyhound class desk officer for Commander, Naval Air Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet, the AV-8B Harrier Program Office (PMA-257), chief test pilot for Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 20, E-2/C-2 Airborne Tactical Data System Program Office (PMA-231), and operations officer, Air Anti-Submarine Warfare, Assault and Special Missions Programs, PEO(A).

Gahagan’s ashore command assignments include VX-20 commanding officer and PMA-231 program manager.

His previous assignment was as commander, Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division and assistant commander for Research and Engineering, Naval Air Systems Command. Before that he served as the Air Warfare Mission Area/From the Air Program Offic
e (PMA-298) program manager. He also served as the military director, Integrated Warfare Capability Enterprise Team.

Gahagan assumed his current position as Program Executive Officer for Tactical Aircraft Programs, PEO(T), in September 2018.

Gahagan is an aerospace engineering duty officer and a graduate of the Defense Systems Management College Advanced Program Management Course, the U.S. Naval War College and the Naval Post Graduate School, with a Master of Science in Aeronautical Engineering. His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
