NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND, PATUXENT RIVER, Md. — Brig. Gen. Gregory L. Masiello assumed leadership of the Program Executive Office for Air Anti-Submarine Warfare, Assault & Special Mission Programs, (PEO(A)), during a change of command ceremony May 7 at Naval Air Station Patuxent River.

Masiello, former assistant commander for Logistics & Industrial Operations at, Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) at Patuxent River, replaced Rear Adm. Dean Peters, who has been confirmed for promotion to vice admiral and will assume command of NAVAIR later this month.

Held at the flag pole at the NAVAIR headquarters, the ceremony began at 8 a.m. with the observance of morning colors—the raising of the flag and playing of the National Anthem.  While the ceremony was brief, it marked a significant milestone for the Navy-Marine Corps team.  Masiello is the first Marine Corps officer to assume command of a PEO for naval aviation.

“PEO(A) is unique in that it is equally balanced between Navy programs and Marine Corps programs, so it is an incredible honor to be turning over PEO(A) to Brig. Gen. Masiello who will be the first Marine Corps PEO,” Peters said.

The program offices within PEO(A) play an important role in naval aviation acquisition by delivering capability and capacity and coordinating life-cycle logistics and sustainment with NAVAIR, Peters said.

Grateful for being selected to lead a PEO, Masiello is confident that there will be additional Marines leading PEO’s in the future. “It doesn’t have to be restricted to PEO(A),” said Masiello.

A 1987 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Masiello was commissioned as a Marine Corps officer and attended flight school at Naval Air Station Pensacola where he earned his wings in October 1989.  He was a distinguished UH-1N and Marine One Helicopter pilot and served in multiple program offices to include PMA-275 as the V-22 Joint Program Manager.
