NAVAL AIR WARFARE CENTER AIRCRAFT DIVISION, PATUXENT RIVER, Maryland – In a surprise dockside ceremony, Coast Guard leaders honored Ron Demes, the Atlantic Targets and Marine Operations (ATMO) Lead at Key West, Florida, with the Meritorious Public Service Award February 13.

Demes earned this honor for his work with the local Navy League Commissioning Committee. The committee was put together for the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance (DDG 111) commissioning and then went on to commission the latest six Fast Response Cutters (FRC) that the local Coast Guard sector received. The committee also supports all FRC pre-commissioning ceremonies since all new FRCs come to Key West to for outfitting and run through some trials just prior to commissioning.

The Seventh Coast Guard District, headquartered in Miami, Florida, is responsible for all Coast Guard operations in the Southeast United States and the Caribbean Basin including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
