Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division’s Jennifer Lam-Nguyen Pham won Asian American Most Promising Engineer of the Year at the 2018 Asian American Engineer of the Year awards ceremony held April 7 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Pham was honored for her 11 years of exceptional work as an electronics engineer supporting numerous programs. According to the award citation, Pham is an outstanding technical leader and innovative trailblazer in the face of the technically tumultuous field of test and evaluation of experimental rotorcraft avionics.

“It was a great honor to represent NAVAIR and it was a humbling experience to be among some of the highest achievers in the engineering community at the award ceremony,” said Pham. “I'm thankful to my branch head for the nomination and my team for the tremendous support.”

Currently, Pham is the mission systems test lead for the CH-53K program, where she’s responsible for the execution of all avionics testing for the Marine Corps future heavy-lift helicopter.

The award also recognizes community service, and Pham was singled out for her membership in the Ket Doan Association, where she participated in “Food for the Homeless” events and the "Save a Child Project,” which provides financial support to impoverished children in Vietnam. She also volunteers as a camp counselor with the Catalyst Foundation's Annual Vietnam Culture Camp, which promotes the Vietnamese heritage and inspiring connections for adopted Vietnamese children.

Naval Air Systems Command senior executive Roy Harris, who is also the executive champion for the Asian Pacific Islander Diversity Advisory Team, presented the award.

“Ms. Pham exemplifies the traits of a true NAVAIR professional by demonstrating technical excellence as a flight test engineer and honoring her heritage through community service,” said Harris. “Her recognition at the ceremony was a proud moment for both the Asian American Pacific Islander team and the entire NAVAIR organization.”

The Asian American Engineer of the Year award is an annual event to honor outstanding Asian American professionals in science and engineering for their technical achievements, leadership and public services. The first ceremony was held in 2002.
