E-2C/C-2A Hawkeye & Greyhound Production and Repair
The E-2C Hawkeye is the U.S. Navy's "Eye in the Sky" providing Command and Control, Early Warning and Airborne Battle Management functions for Carrier Strike Force and Joint Force Operations for U.S. Forces, as well as in service with the Egyptian Air Force, French Navy, Japanese Self Defense Air Force, Taiwanese Air Force, and Singapore Air Force. ![]() The C-2A Greyhound is the logistics workhorse for the Fleet, moving high priority equipment, material and personnel to and from Aircraft Carriers while at sea, as well as between shore bases. The Greyhound has the capability of delivering up to 10,000 lbs of cargo up to a range of 1,300 nautical miles making the C-2A a valuable asset for the Fleet. ![]() The E-2C/C-2A Program at Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRC Southwest) consists of 5 main Groups: Planned Maintenance Interval One and Two for E-2C/C-2A aircraft (PMI-1/PMI-2 for E2-C), Planned Maintenance Interval Three/Service Life Extension Program/Rewire for C-2A aircraft(PMI3/SLEP/Rewire), In-Service Repair (ISR), Foreign Military Sales (FMS), and E-2 Super Modules. PLANNED MAINTENANCE INTERVAL 1 AND 2 (PMI 1/PMI 2) FOR E-2C/C-2A The PMI 1 and PMI 2 programs have been developed as a method to retain the highest amount of Flight hours versus Maintenance hours scheduled under the NAVAIR long-range vision, the Integrated Maintenance Concept. The PMI 1/PMI 2 method has been expanded to encompass numerous aircraft in the Fleet's inventory, including the E-2C and C-2A. Incorporating Airframe and Avionics Changes during the PMI process has also resulted in reduced downtime while gaining an increase in reliability, safety, security and mission capabilities. ![]() PMI 3/SERVICE LIFE EXTENSION PROGRAM/ REWIRE FOR C-2A The PMI 3/SLEP/Rewire Program for the C-2A Greyhound is a unique combination of Planned Maintenance Interval to repair and refurbish theC-2A, a Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) effort to add structural, electrical, and avionics changes to extend the working life of the airframe, and a complete Rewire of the aircraft, replacing the wiring harnesses found throughout the airframe. This program obtains aircraft scheduled for a Planned Maintenance effort and allows the additional work requirements of SLEP and Rewire to be performed concurrently while the aircraft is in a scheduled downtime zone. The plane is then returned to the Fleet not only capable, but ready to serve for an extended lifetime. ![]() IN-SERVICE REPAIR (ISR) The In Service Repair Team is the versatile and innovative arm of the E-2/C-2 Production and Repair team. Working closely with Engineering support to maintain the safety and reliability of the airframes to the highest degree, the Team works to overcome challenges ashore, afloat and in-theater to return safe and secure aircraft to flying status as quickly as possible. E-2C SUPER MODULES E-2C Super Modules refers to separating the major component sections of the Hawkeye into easier to manage sections, including Fuselage, Empennage, Center Wing Section, Rotodome, and Outer Wing Sections. Facilitating maintenance by requiring a reduced down-time for the aircraft, a Super Module can be repaired and placed back into service relatively quickly. ![]() |
